Every year philanthropist Paul Tremblay hosts a charity pig roast in support of the Shamiso Children's Home of Zimbabwe in the Town of Deep River. This year was no exception!  Gene Kiviaho, one of Wise Move Realty's outstanding Real Estate Agents, spent this past Saturday, August 22nd, participating in the annual pig roast and even met Lorraine Wilson who is the President/Founder of the Shamiso Foundation (see photo).  During this amazing event over $10,000 was raised!

What is the Shamiso Children's Home you ask?  The Shamiso Foundation is a non-profit organization who's mission is to provide orphans of Zimbabwe and Durban South Africa with life's essentials and a caring home environment.  They hope to provide a refuge for orphaned children.  According to a 2011 United Nations report, there were one million children living in Zimbabwe who had been orphaned as a result of parents dying from AIDS.

The Shamiso Children's Home is located 164 kilometres south of the capital of Harare. It currently has 28 children residing in the five room home, however, another 60 are on the waiting list and must find accommodations elsewhere. Often there is no where else to go.  The annual charity event in Deep River is held to raise funds to help offset costs of the organization.  The founder of the non-profit organization, Lorraine Wilson who was orphaned herself at age 16, hopes to expand the current building so they can take in more children, but the immediate need is the drilling of a bore hole for a new well as the current one has dried up.
