You know what I'm talking about.

BBQs, margaritas, outdoor parties, outdoor dinners, reading outside...catching a theme here? These all typically happen on a deck, and we know a lot of you prefer wood decks for that old school ambience.

What you might not know is now is the time to get your wood deck back in shape to take on the weight of all those hot dog eating contests and parties you're planning on throwing. (Don't try to pretend like you don't know what we're talking about.)

In a few easy steps:
1. Hose it off. All that debris needs to be removed from between the boards with a high-powered hose or powerwasher.
2. Clean it. Just make sure to carefully read the directions of whatever type of deck cleaner you pick up.
3. Seal. Make sure to put down tarps to protect plants, air conditioners, etc. from any sealer you might use. The level of protection depends on how you are going to apply the sealant. Sealant can be brushed on, rolled on with a paint roller, or sprayed on.
4. Stain. Generally the best finishes are the ones that really soak into the wood.

Get all this done, and your deck will be in prime shape by the time it's warm enough to enjoy your spoils. Those hot dogs aren't going to eat themselves.
